    Motor Swapping

    Would a motor from a `96 GSX fit in a `97 XP with no modifications? I've got a `97 XP with a trashed 787 motor. I just talked to a guy who has a `96 GSX with what he thinks is a bad computer. He seemed to think that it had the 787 motor in it. He said he wants $350 but I think he might take less. He said he's gonna do a compression check and call me back with the result. What does everyone think?

    Those are both 787s. It is the same engine in both boats. The pipe should be the same but if it doubt, use the pipe that came with the boat the engine is going into.

    The rotary valve and carbs should be the same too, but you may want to check and if different, same rule as the pipe.

    i think the rave valves were set up different. someone else want to confirm?

    Maybe the setting on the cap but I am pretty sure that all the 787s used pressure actuated RAVEs (as opposed to command operated RAVEs that are controlled by the MPEM via the RAVE solonoid on the 947).

    In the parts diagram for the '97 XP they look like standard 787 RAVEs and that GSX should be no different.
