    Carb Issues??????????

    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=106457

Hey all this is continuation of my runaway engine thread.2004 xl700.I had to rebuild the top end new pistons and rings. Got everything back together fired right up but stays at a high rpm I tried adjusting the low speed needles with no effect the butterflys are both closed and the idle screw is all the way out. I had a terrible time trying to get the popoff pressures when I rebuilt the carbs.I got the minuki tester and had to pump the heck out of it to get 30 psi never did get that clean popoff everyone talks about. could the could the needle or seats be leaking? If I get new ones what size should they be? For a 701 62 t in a xl700? The carb book I have shows 3 different sizes.

if the throttle plates are CLOSED then getting more fuel would not let the engine rev,, it would flood it and bog,,

You have something leaking alot of air,,, It is LEAN and that is why it is revving...

Carb base gaskets? reed blocks? pulse line for fuel pump?

    look it over close

every thing looks tite. the only thing I didn't do was the crankshaft seals because the y looked intact I pressurised the case to 10 psi and it held but when I rotated the shaft they would leak. I hate to pull the motor again but if that is it what can I do? What do you think?

yeah...you can pull the engine and flip it over and replace them once you pull the flywheel and PTO coupler off.
