    Exclamation Kawi 260x Supercharger Question

Is it true the belt on the SC needs to be changed after every 20 hours? I picked up my 260 about 2 months ago. My girlfriend thought she'd go have a look at a SeaDoo she liked at the dealer. The salesman told her that the belt on the 260 stretches and needs to be changed every 20 hours. Was wondering if he was really just trying to unload a SeaDoo on her and convince her not to get another Kawi or if it was true. Thanks for the input.

Thanks man. I got nervous. And not to mention really pissed. Guess I will go back to that dealership and kick the salesman in the nards.

Sounds like par for the course for any salesman................Jack asses.................

Normally its @ 100 hours before the belt should be replaced..........

Then while they are there you can add a Extra Belt holder to store an extra belt so it will be easy to replace it when the time comes again.......

Oh and Welcome to the forum.......

Thanks for the welcome. Well good. That 100 hours sounds a whole lot better than every 20. It turns out, she did wind up buying the SeaDoo RXT 215 against my wishes. LOL.

Kawi factory service manual says, ONLY the tension needs to be checked at first 10 hours and then every 25 hours there after. There is no replacement schedule specified in the manual. You replace when it breaks. Your riding style will be the major factor that determines the life of the belt. It could be shorter or longer than 100 hrs. It's like brake pads on your car, there is no predetermined replacement schedule. You replace only when it needs to be. Same thing with checking the tension, depending on your riding style, the tension may or may not hold the Kawi's predetermined scheduled period. Also, the belt does not stretch. Instead it wears out where it comes in contact with the metal pulleys and the overall effective inner dia becomes larger. That's why it needs to be re-tightened to the spec range.

You can buy the $49 s/c tension gauge (Kawi P/N 57001-1697) from dealer and you can check/adjust the belt yourself instead of paying the stealership.
