what colour should liquid in catch can be

i emptied my catch can today after 1 hour 90% throttle run. machine ran super well and everything is fine. specs are in my signature. the liquid i pull out usually is like apple juice, although it doesnt smell like it. today it had a small layer of oil looking fluid floating on top of the "juice". is this normal? can this be an indicator of the state of the engine or is it just all crap anyways?

that would mean that the valves are not seated 100% right? which is not that big of a deal i think.

Yes , over a period of time fuel will dilute the engine oil and its ability to lubricate decreases so you get more leakage past the rings and the problem gets worse. There are many factors which cause this but if your oil is looking a bit brownish then change it. Seadoo recomends to change oil at 50hrs which personally I think is way too long. I change my oil as soon as it starts to discolour and loose its tackyness when you rub it between your fingers.

thanks for the advice! will some head work solve the problem? (valve seals and head planning) the machine has 80 hours on it and she runs like a champ but these are problems i can fix over the winter...

Leaky valve seats won"t cause your problem but worn valve guides will. The guides would have to be extremly worn and at only 80 hrs I doubt it.Start with a fresh batch of oil and go from there. All forced induction engines breathe heavy and the harder you ride them the more they will breathe. As a consequence the oil becomes contaminated with fuel and you get more blow by past the rings which then heats up the oil and it starts to break down. The time frame for this is dependant on level of Mods to the ski but it is mainly boost pressure.I don"t know what oil you use so monitor it after the change as see if it stops breathing as heavy.

If you happen to have your oil level too high, the catch can crap will be mostly oil and dark. If your ski is like most modded skis and oil level is OK, then the crap in the catch can is mostly gas, with a little water and oil mixed in. 'Normal' catch can crap can be poured over wood to start campfires ...
