Fair price for a Polaris 780 SLT ?

This weekend I am looking at a 1997 Polaris 780 SLT. I believe it is a one-owner. It belongs to long-time family friends of my girlfriend's family. They have had it serviced regularly and properly winterized every year. Stored inside during winter. I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard it, it is in average condition. They used it a couple times this summer. What do you all think is a fair price for it? It comes with a single trailer. Seller is not sure what a fair price is. I don't want to rip him off, or get ripped off. He told me to suggest a price.

    Thanks!

    KBB.com says $1800 retail and $1185 trade-in, NADA says $950. How's that for discrepancy?

I would say if it's in good running condition (even compression, clean, jet pump in good shape, gel coat isn't busted up) that somewhere around $1500 might be fair.

For some reason the NADA numbers for Polaris PWC are almost always on the low side, for a running machine in decent condition.

    This very reasonable.

Thanks for all the input. I think I will be getting a good deal. He seems to believe it is worth less than $1K. I may be getting a friend of the family discount, I dunno.

I still want to check it out first and make sure the compression in the cylinders is good, etc.

Hopefully I will bring it home this Sunday!

Well, they made me an offer I could not refuse, so I bought it! It is in much better condition than it was described to me. Now I am on a quest to find an owner's and/or service manual for it.

Well, I am almost ashamed of what I paid! I showed him the NADA and KBB printouts. He said he'd seen those too. I was prepared to start at a very lowball price of $650 and work my way up. He started at $500 for the ski, trailer, and cover. I took it! I'm guessing it is worth at least $1500 in its condition.

I am hoping to get a similar deal on the shore station lift for it when they decide to sell it.
