    Live and Learn

you guys can call me a D/A but here it is. Had a 03 limited bought it brand new. listened to the dealer on the care of it. Was told since it had a closed loop cooling system I wouldn't have to flush the engine hardly at all. He knew we ride mostly in the salt water. Well the 03 is a piece of crap now due to the advice of that damn dealer. I know you are saying you stupid ass you should have read the manuel but I didn't took his word on it. What happens is the salt water that is left in your ski when you fell to flush it by sitting around it evaproates and gets into your oil system. Therefore screwing up your valve train and everything else. I had all my check up's, oil changes so forth and so on. Luckly I found another Ski. A 2003 GTX,S/C, with 37.5 hours on it for $5,600.00. And will flush it everytime regardless. There is allot more to the story but it will just bore you.

Ken, the closed loop cooling on your engine is not what you flush.

Its the exhaust and intercooler (if equipped) that is cooled by lake water/salt water and this is what you flush.

Lake water never has the opportunity to get to your oiling system.

but it has no chance to get into your oil or your valves.

I suspect you have flipped the ski before? and/or sunk it?

The only link between the closed loop system and engine I can think of is the seal they warn you about (have to start the engine before turning water on, etc). Is it possible for salt water left in the exhaust system to cause corrosion leading to seal failure?

nope never flipped or sunk. If you don't flush it after you have been in salt it does evaporate and get into the oil and after awhile it screws up you valve train and crank. Other than flushing it i took excellent care of my ski but that one item called flushing it cost me my ski. Expensive lesson I assure you.
