    Do wiseco pistons run loose?

That's what I was told. Ring end gap is about .018 to .019" when the manual called .016" maximum on my 1100 wave raider. My local shop with a good rep pretty much told me that he prefers to run 'em loose.

    Any thoughts?

.005-.007 clearance on the diameter is normal for wisecoes. One word of advice is to warm them up good before going wide open with them.

Wow...that's a lot of clearance.....I would worry about piston skirt slap/damage with that amount...

that is a lot of ring end gap,,

typically you run things looser on a air cooled motor,, not sure why they would want to do that on a ski,

And remember as posted WARM the engine well before putting the hammer down. The wiseco is a forged piston,, it will expand faster than the cast pistons

    Ok-

Here's the skinny, since I was able to get through to wiseco this afternoon.

They are to run loose. In fact you can run .030" on end ring gap maximum. Typically, when sold the ring material and FORGE pistons must allow room for expansion. Wiseco has it as a MINIMUM @ .015" and are looking for .017" to .021" for ring end gap.

I tell ya, its hard get anyone from wiseco on the phone.

Definitely will take to heart the advice about warming her prior to raking the coals.

    Thanks GUYS!

Yeah but what type of ring gap did you start with? That seems like a ton of gap to me ....

Group K set up the pistons and cylinders so I am not sure what the ring gap was.
