    pwc-95-13 95 SLX-intermittent hard starting

I wonder if someone can relay me the fix without compromising big brothers intellectual property. Can't find it in a search. I think this is the issue I'm having with my buddies SLX.

What exactly is a 'modulator', and what does it actually do?

Anybody with a 1995 SLX 780 that can post photos of a modulator?
It might be zip tied to the CDI.

    PN 3240287

All I can tell is that the 'modulator' is wired into the Green/Red wire from the stator to the CDI, and to ground.

What it is doing to the signal from the stator I have no idea

Without installing the modulator, if you Press and release the Start button several times, does the engine start?

I had one a while back. Pretty sure it went to 450warrior in a performance package he bought from me.

Nut, see if you can find another (later) CDI to try.

Unfortunately I gave 1 to Al a few weeks back. It was the revised 780 CDI.

What's the number on your buddy's CDI box?

well his serial number didn't fall in the list. It is a used ski though. Don't know if anyone has been in there. It starts and runs fine for a couple of weeks. Then out of the blue it won't start. I first thought it was fuel related, but I'm gonna check for spark maybe it is electrical. It don't even cough.

MFD read 13 volts, Volt metered the battery and it said 11.63 volts. Did a visual spark check anyway. No spark on mag and center cylinders, barley a spark on PTO. Charging the battery, I will check again tomorrow. going to trim the plug wires and check again. maybe it is electrical???

11.80 volts on a lead acid battery means 100% discharged

Less than 11.8 volts mean the battery is effectively below 0%, which is not only very weak, but the battery can be permanently internally weakened. It may not be able to accept a full charge, and will discharge more quickly in the future. The remaining battery life may be reduced.

How about swapping your CDI with his? Then you can see if the problem follows.
