    PPG Modified OEM head

Hey, has anyone tried this head? i hear alot about modified oem heads, and it seems PPG's is a great price. This is the 951 engine. Right now i have proks, 95lows, 167.5 highs, 2.3 needle/seats with a fresh top end and a 15/20 prop. Will i have to alter the jets at all? i read Ben's mods and he used this jet setup with his head. Also, does this head mod make a big difference?

It does make a noticeable difference and PPG does a good job at decking the heads. Basically it ups the compression of the head, giving you much more oomph. You shouldn't need to re-jet, but you may need to re-pitch the impeller depending on how it hits.

Another viable option is to buy an aftermarket head with removable/replaceable domes. Some like this option because the A/M head use o-rings to seal, and not expensive 1-2 use head gaskets. You can easily pull the head whenever you want and just bolt it back down after inspection.

Either route will require you to run premium fuel in your ski (91 or higher).

FWIW - I have an ADA head with a bag of extra orings and 48cc domes that I was thinking of offloading. send me an email if you are interested and I can send you some pics. [email protected]

If I had a choice, I'd take Dan up on his offer and keep your stock head for down the road. I'm not a big PPG fan, but I am a DSolie fan. Go with the ADA head, there are a few people on here than run them and really like them.

But if you insist on milling your stock head, go with groupK. They do a great job plus they add bleeder lines for the head, you'll need a pisser valve, but its better than the alternative.

Nice, I had to look at my list to see what domes I have. I'm using the 46's. Thats as crazy as I go these dayz. Started right up this summer a few times as I had our skis for sale, but no takers, economy sucks and people want everything free, LOL Overall it was a real bad boating season on Lake Erie, actually went out on the boat less than 1/2 the hrs compared to last year. Most due to bad weather.

I went back up to 50cc domes as I now feel slower and running beats faster and a rod sticking out the side.

Still going 63, same speed as with the 48s (and the comp is only like 3lbs lower, go figure).
