Anyone taken stock handlebars off? trouble removing screws

I'm putting aftermarket handlebars and finger throttle on my ski and can't seem to be able to remove the steering clamp holding the stock bars on. Has anyone removed this before? any pointers?, the screws seem to be locked in there pretty good (lock tite?, corroded?) and I don't want to bang on the steering system too hard to try and get them out. thanks

Oh yeah. Been there, done that. You need to soak it with penetrating oil and beat the studs through the clamp. I suggest finding a spare nut to put on the stud to keep from damaging the threads when hitting them. It can be a real pain. I was amazed at how much effort it took to get them out once corroded. The longer you can let the oil penetrate the better.

Some PB Blaster and a rubber mallet is all you need.

Just done exactly this on the weekend, soaked with release oil and then just prised off, although if they are still tough then a couple of taps with a mallet as mentioned before will defo do the trick

yep. thats corrosion. Have fun. Why didnt you do the umi setup? its a pain to do aftermarket bars with the stock steering.. youll have to rig something up for your lanyard post and etc.

UMI was not in the budget at this time, i have a mount for lanyard, just need to relocate the beeper.

Did you guys remove the whole stock steering system to remove these or did you do this while on the ski?

TJ, don't remove the entire thing. just do what these guys said and get some PB blaster and soak it and then use a mallet on the bolts with the nut on a little. may have to pry the clamps apart little by little as well. don't get all crazy just little by little
