How sure are you about 250 SC 76mph out of the box? I can see it going 70mph out of the box but 76mph.

Here's what I find funny...RIVA stage 2 RXP = about 230HP right? And it will do about 75mph depending on weather, elevation, etc. So this Kawi putting out 240hp (now I hear 250hp) will only go about 71mph? What's going on here? Is it that heavy? Are the manufacturers making the hulls slower, pumps less efficeint, or what?

Something isn't adding up to me here. That new Kawi seems like it should go 74 or 75mph when given that RXP comparison.

Is the coast guard forcing them to make less efficient pumps or slower hulls to keep stock speeds down?

The story is that the coast guard gives PWC's and exemption on certain rules if the manufacturers keep the speeds down. I haven't heard of SeaDoo being punished for breaking the gentleman's agreement.

Are you able to give any examples about what rules you are talking about? I am not trying to bust your chops. I am just ignorant on the subject.

Just read the sticker on the rear of your ski (unless you already took it off like most of us do !) It talks about the items that are required to meet certain specs on regular boats, but are given an exemption on PWC. They include ventilation, floatation, hull horsepower limit, etc. If The USCG wanted to, they could repeal these exemptions which would prohibit the sale and use of PWC anywhere in the US. The manufacturers have to thread lightly and keep the Admiral happy.
