    Ignition expertise needed!

I was at Wavedaze in Va. Beach yesterday. My ski ran great all day. Then I cruised to the ramp, got my car, and then all the ski will do is fire for the first second, and die. I took the plugs out today, spun it with a plug to ground, and sure enough, you hit the start button, and it will fire about the first 6 revolutions or so, and then stop sparking as if someone hit a switch even though the engine is still spinning. Anyone know what would cause this craziness????

to me it sounds like a coil.. didnt you just get a set rewired and booted? otherwise i'd ohm test the pickups and then test out the cdi as being bad.. you have the stock flywheel so I'll assume the thing is not cracked and out of time like the r/d one's could do...

its sucks ,that basicly to test em as failed ,you have to install known good parts...

Could be CDI also...they have similar issues when they start to fail....

In a way I hope its the CDI. This will make room for one with an adjustable rev limiter.

No need for increased RPM if your engine won't spin it unless un-hooked. Keep in mind extra RPM= increased wear and unless your porting supports you spinning that high...your just wasting bearings! I can't remember ...are you hitting the limiter now...if not....no need to mod your CDI.

Again...just my 2 cents worth which is what it's worth....just thinking out loud

Once I put the pipe on, I will be pretty close to the limiter which is at 7200 now. Right now, it turns 6800-ish. Factory Pipe claims a 300-400 RPM increase on a stock engine, which brings me into the neighborhood of the limiter. Also, I don't know what the porting job this winter will bring.

Have you checked all the grounds. A loose ground will do the same thing.

good point we often overlook the simpler fix and go right on to start condeming the hard parts..if i remember correctly the ground wire from the stator is the tie in ground for the cdi.. do you remember tightening it down fully when you rebuilt her?

Sure did... But like I said... I am going over everything with a magnifying glass if I have to.
