    Painting Ski

I am considering painting my rxp and I was wondering what kind of paint to use and how to prep the plastic. I will be painting the chrome pieces, grab handle, hood, and those foam like pieces on the side. Feel free to post pictures of your skis. Thanks

That's a pretty badass paint job. I don't think I'll be painting the top deck though although some flames wouldn't look to shabby on an rxp . Has anyone painted the chrome pieces and know what paint and prep work they need and the hood also.

Just make sure you get a good quality paint. To prep the parts scuff them really well with about a 400 grit paper or 30 micron about the same as 400 grit if you have any scratches you may need 320 grit to get them out. This will make sure you get good adhesion. Tack it well and wipe it with a cleaner. I usually just use the thinner that comes with the paint that way you know the will be compatable with the paint. Also get flexall to go in as an additive for the plastic. Just tell the dealer what you are painting and he will show how much is needed. The base coat clearcoats work really well and paint real easy. Just remember it will look dull until the clearcoat is applied. Only takes a thin base. The chrome pieces will probably have to be primed to prevent peeling, ask the dealer
Also I might add that if you have ever waxed the ski make sure it is washed off before starting good idea to clean it well before starting anyway.
