    PLease Help

    I have a 1999 Polaris X45. I need to find a motor for this Machine, but I cant seem to find one. I know that there were only 500 of these made. Does anyone know where I can find one or what motors might be able to fit into it? Thanks

    Welcome to the Hulk

    As far as I know, the 1999 X-45 (aka SLTX-B) uses a standard red Polaris 1200 (1165cc) engine, which was also used in the 1999 Genesis, and 2000-2004 Genesis and Virage TX models.

    How much of the old engine is re-usable?
    Carbs, intake, stator, exhaust...?

    The fuel injected Genesis i and Virage TXi also use the same 1165cc engine, below the cylinder heads and carbs.

    well the motor is seized up. One of the pistons cracked the case. I got it for free from a friend after his kid flipped it and started it with water in the motor. The guy that is fixing it for me says i should prolly just get a new motor!

    Well it depends on how much damage was done by the water as far as rust goes...if water was left in the engine to long, then the crank will need to be replaced. The engine can be rebuilt without to much problems but if you opt for a new engine, any 1200 or even a 1050 engine will work in that watercraft. Oh and one other thing, a BIG misconception about these is that there were only 500 made...this is wrong as there were a few thousand of these ANNIVERSARY editions made...they ARE NOT a limited edition. Anyway, good luck with the fix and welcome to the Hulk.

    Post up some clear photos of the damage.

    Hydro locking usually cracks the piston, not the engine case. Freezing water inside the engine will crack cases.

    You may be able to find a good condition 1200 engine

    If you want to rebuild the engine, and the crank shaft has any rust or other damage, then it would need rebuilding;

    Also check the Classifieds for parted out machines;
    remember, any year 1200 (1165cc) or 1050 engine is a potential candidate, even the fuel injected blocks.

    You might even be able to buy a running 1200 powered Polaris PWC, swap the good engine over, and sell off the other parts of the donor to recoup some dollars.

    Parted out machines often fetch more money in parts than they cost to buy. More work, of course, pulling it apart, listing the stuff, and getting it all sold.

    Everything I have ever read stated that the X45 is a limited edition. Polaris was always big on limited editions, just look at their snowmobiles. Where did you find this information?

    "One of the pistons cracked the case." you're looking at a potentially big jog. Cracked the crank case or the cylinder? either way it sounds like your crank shaft is twisted from the hydro lock.

    He is correct. It is an ANNIVERSARY edition. But in truth, it is what they called the SLTX-B model. It was to celebrate their 45 years making stuff. Unsure of the numbers, but there were only about 500 made just for homogenization purposes for racing.
