    Arrow Polaris domestic CDI versions

    I want to ensure I have this correct.

    I know there are three 'generations' of the PVL manufactured ignition modules for the domestic engines;
    CDI Gen 1 - Red potting, no com port
    CDI Gen 2 - Red potting, with 9-pin com port
    CDI Gen 3 - Black potting, with 9-pin com port

    My questions;
    What model years did the Gen 2 and Gen 3 CDI first appear, and on what models?

    Is the color of the cap on the 9-pin port an indicator?

    Are all Ignition Update Kit CDIs of the Gen 3 type?

    Quoting from Jay's very helpful article;
    ...The first being the red potted (color of epoxy where the wires exit the CDI) with[out?] a com port.
    This was found on very early boats and if you have one in your boat you should upgrade when you get the chance, it WILL fail.

    The second generation box is red potted with a com port next to where the wires exit the CDI. This is programmable and adjustable, better than the first generation but not the best.

    The third is the current black potted unit with a com port and is the best CDI ever produced by PVL for the Polaris watercraft...
    For example, would this 1999 CDI (4060148 ) be a Gen 1 or Gen 2?

    That should be a Gen1

    And I believe you are correct with your explanations of all 3 versions. colors and ports etc..

    No serial connector,Gen 1,With Gen 2. That one looks to be missing the serial port.

    1996 Hurricane 700 twin original CDI, Original Coil pack, and Original Stator

    Not sure why the 27 is marked in green on the back of the stator, timing?

    Newer Stator

    This stator along with the part number has the month and year on the out side edge. it's July 2000.

    My new update kit should be here soon for the 700 twin. I will put up more pictures for Keith when it arrives.

    My understanding is that the cable from the original 1996-1998 (and 1999 SLTX 1050) stators, and corresponding update kit stators, exits the flywheel rear housing (PN 1201563) just above the starter motor.

    From 2000 onwards (and the 1999 Genesis and X-45/SLTX-B '1200' engines), the stator cable exits on the right side of the engine, away from the starter motor (Flywheel back housing PN 1201923).

    Not sure if the 1999 SLX with the 1050 engine also used the newer stator version
    The 4010257 stator is listed for both the SLTX and SLX
    But the 1201563 stator housing is only listed for the SLTX, not the SLX.

    Sometimes I just don't trust the Polaris parts cross reference to tell the entire story

    This is the 4010257 stator,with a date of 11/98. It is the Gen 1 stator with the " U " shaped grommet. I got it used,not sure if it is SLX or SLTX
