    04 GP1300R - Lost revs in water

    Hi all

I'm hoping you can help me

I recently had a pump rubbing problem, liner was raised in one spot, filed it down and all good (only add this cos its the only thing thats happened since the last ride)

took it out today and it feel like the engine is bogging down, its not making full revs, probably max 6k and the top speed is obviously down: ~20km/hr

out of the water it revs fine, put it in the water - it feels choked up, am I right that if it was cavitating it would spin up to full revs at WOT with no go then catch and accellerate? this was my experience before I changed the prop last year (50 hours ago)

checked for exhaust leaks, compression is unchanged - plugs look okay (bit rich)

I would appreciate any feedback you gurus might have

oh its got 150 hours on it and it was 100% last time it was taken out

    Cheers

    Dave

Take that pump apart and make sure that it is still not rubbing in there.

    yeah I did

its not - you could hear it before- its the best its ever sounded now

okay, since I first posted I flushed the ski on the trailer, rolling the ski off the back of the trailer to drain it

while I was there I gave it a few revs and winched the ski back into position. I found a lump of cat converter on the ground. Obviously it made it out of the exhaust (about half the size of a cigarette packet)

Now, considering the previous owner had a D-Plate installed, I'm assuming that they either didn't remove it properly or it was collapsed and didn't investigate fully the whereabouts of the bits (I'm assuming they can just bust up???)

so, buoyed by this find I raced back to the ocean for another test, no better. in fact, I couldn't get over 5500rpm @ WOT

Tomorrow I'm taking the entire exhaust out to see (god I hope) that theres another lump in there causing a backpressure issue

so - would the symptoms I've described be caused by a blockage in the exhaust??

Cheers again for any info/feedback you might have!

The weather outlook for the weekend here is too good not to out on the water

even though the last owner said he installed a d plate are you sure he did ? maybe there are bits of the cat con still stuck in the pipe and the cause of the 5500 rpm as you mentioned youreself, if im correct the aussie gp1300r models had the cat con sensers installed just like the american models is that still there

An exhaust blockage is a restriction and will cause your symptom. Pull the pipe and waterlock box, alot of the time chunks will get stuck in there

well that was an epic fail

I pulled the exhaust out and checked for blockages

found the inner rubber sleeve that connects the stinger to the exhaust a bit loose but thats it

changed plugs (really clutching at straws now!!) and took it to the water

    same deal

I've just about given up - I don't know where to go next (to the dump??!!!)

hey when the 1300R's are started and stopped, are you meant to hear a beep?? I've never heard one but today after removing battery box etc it started doing it - then stopped

sometimes I feel like I should just stop in bed

It could be a broken reed or a bad fuel injector. I've seen them both cause the same problem your having.

    wow

    cheers for that

what I'm hearing is it could be anything

its an EFI ski, so it could be an injector, I guess it could be a HT lead too? breaking down under load??

how does one test injectors? rip them out and get them cleaned I guess???
