    99 SLH switched to a 03 Virage 700

Anyone happen to know if the engine and jet pump from a 99 SLH will easily fit into 03 virage. Both have a Red Twin 700 engine but as for the electrical and jet pump. I have a chance to buy a nice 03 Virage hull everything except engine and jet drive. I have a SLH that the hull isn't in good shape and was wondering if I can swith the insides from the SLH to the Virage without any problem or additional cost.

The swap should be easy enough to do.

Mechanically the 1999 SLH engine and jet pump should bolt into the 2003 Virage hull nicely.

You may want to check the alignment of the engine to the jet pump, which will require the use of an alignment tool.

Do you have the CDI from the 1999 electrical box?
What is the part number on it?

If you want to use the Virage CDI, you need to determine whether the 1999 SLH engine has the original 1999 magneto stator, or the Update Kit installed.

The Virage CDI is not electrically compatible with the original 1999 stator, but it is electrically compatible with the update kit stator.

If your 1999 engine has the updated stator, check to see if there is a multi-pin connector in-line with the stator cable between the electrical box and the flywheel housing.

I have the updated electrical on the SLH but no quick disconnect (hard wired). Even with the updated kit, could I splice the stator wires into the Virage electrical box and have success with the MFG. Also the Hull is an 02 not 03.

    Thanks

You are going to use the 2002 Virage wiring harness and electrical box - correct?

The Virage uses an MFI digital display, and the Virage harness has the proper pin connections for that display.

If you need to utilize the 1999 SLH wire harness (which is wired for the oval type MFD display), it could be adapted to work with the Virage display. The connectors and pin connections are arranged differently, but the actual electrical signals are the same, just wired to different pins.

    Multi-Function Display (MFD)

The updated 1999 stator and the Virage stator are electrically the same, so the wires can be spliced together (or you can transplant the update kit stator connector piece into the Virage electrical box).

Tricky flywheel tidbit here - the 2002 flywheel 4010569 (2002 Virage, Freedom, Genesis, Octane) is different from the normal 4060164 or 4010189 flywheels used on almost every other domestic engine/year. 2003-2004 Virage and Freedom also used the 4010569 high start flywheel.

The 2002 flywheel 4010569 is configured to deliver an extra 10 degrees of base spark advance, compared to the normal flywheels.

Polaris calls this a High-Start flywheel, because the timing signal to the CDI is triggered 10 degrees earlier.

This means that the 2002 Virage CDI is configured with a counteracting 10 degrees LESS base timing (producing the same overall engine timing curve).

If you use the 2002 Virage CDI with your 1999 engine, you must use a 2002 flywheel 401056, or have the SLH CDI reprogrammed (spark curve reduced by ten degrees across the entire RPM range).

If you use the stock/update CDI and the stock flywheel from the 1999 engine, it will work just fine, even in the Virage electrical box.
