    World Finals Video-very short

    On Sunday, I had the pleasure of being out on the race course, in a pontoon boat, for most of the morning. I took a ton of pictures, that I'm just now sorting through. Some different perspectives.

    Well, there wasn't much going on in the morning, and Dustin Farthing, and Craig Warner were both out on the lake warming up their boats as they made a pass by our pontoon boat. Yes, they knew we were there, and what we were doing-lucky us.
    Here's what I can tell you; It's impossible to shoot HD video from a moving/floating boat!!! Not even a tripod would have helped. With HD video, the camera has to be perfectly stabilized, otherwise you get a lot of artifact. This short video was the only one that survived the cutting room floor;

    Nope, was shooting 1080P, but Youtube always makes them only 720P. It's just the camera. What do you expect for $500???
    On a boat, moving as much as we were, you would have needed a "Gyro mount". It was hard enough taking pictures with a telephoto lens. I got some great shots of sky, water, sky, water........

    Does the camera have any internal stabilization?

    If it does, it can make things worse when shooting on water. Try turning the camera's stabilization off.

    Do you know of a reasonably priced gyro stabilizer that doesn't weigh a lot?

    I was thinking about a stabilizer or gyro mount for myself, but have not done any investigating.

    Water is such a tough environment for photographic equipment.
    Waterproof or splashproof gyro mount - does it exist?

    The camera stablizer doesn't turn off, but it's useless anyways. Most of them are.
    It was shot at 1080P 60, but, converted to 720P 30fps, because that is the only standard that Youtube will accept. If you try higher, it will just convert it for you, which is even worse. Vimeo does host 1080 videos, but really, you can't tell much difference, and the size difference is massive.

    The only way to shoot video from a boat on the water is with a Wescam gyro stabilized HD camera system. Those run into the 1+ million dollar range. I've flown them before on helicopters, and they are amazing. There is no cheap solution that I know of. But, my expertise is more towards still photography.
