Thread: Oil Issue!!!!

Hey guys, I have a 08 fxho and its time for me to do a oil change. I was reading the specs and yamaha and it says the oil capacity is 1.2gal or 4.5L now, when I was looking at the owner's manual on yamaha's website it says something different...
with oil filter replacement (which is what I'm doing)
2.3L (2.43 US qt)
without oil filter replacement:
2.1L (2.22 US qt)
4.5L (4.76 US qt)
It doesn't make sense to me. If your going to change the oil it means your going to drain out all the oil and top it off with new and fresh oil which is 4.5L, now why is it saying if I'm going to be be replacing the oil filter as well I only need 2.3L....
Please greenhulk guys help me understand this and if I'm wrong in anyway please let me know.
What should I do???

If you are just changing the oil and not changing the filter it will take 2.1L.
If you are changing the oil and filter it will take 2.3L.
You dont add the two amounts together

BPnta is correct. Unlike your car or motorbike ( where the drain plug is near the bottom ) you are only going to be able to change half of your oil.
