Polishing the plate is a waste of time. Never seen a back to back on this one, but can tell you my plate is not polish. Besides it won't stay pretty for long.

No, they really do. Ive treid befor and after and its a solid two mph. I had jims plate w/ skeggs welded on by jim. Then I switched to Eriks (speedfreeks) plate without skeggs and gained 2 MPH. I was going to have Erik put the skeggs on but he said not to because they slow you down. And they really do!!! All of the really fast skis do not have skeggs because they add additional drag!! seriously, if ya wanna go fast dont use skeggs. PERIOD!!

Send it to Jim at Jim's Performance. Good for 1.5 - 2.5 MPH gain.

I agree loose, or plate without skeggs is faster, but in my experience with skegged and unskegged plate there was not 2 mph diff.

To the original question - take some material off the rear mounting bosses to add angle to the plate. Adding the riva plate would be a much better option though. With more angle comes the porpoise problem and you will need to add RE or riva blockoffs

This statement would be false. Stock plates with skegs gain speed. You are also trying to compare speed differences between Jim's plate with and Erics plate without. Comparing apples to oranges.

As far as handleing goes between the two plates i would again chose Eriks plate. I had problems w/ porposing w/ jims plate and had to shim the rear of the plate down to stop it possiblly reducing some of the speed benefits of the plate. On Eriks plate i just bolted it up and had no porposing problems. Jim only machines the rear to bosses on the plate. Erik machines all 3 bosses and tear drops the four small holes in the middles of the plate. If I was going to do it all over again I would choose Eriks plate hands down.
