Can corrosion cause an HK Bov to not operate?

Can corrosion cause an Hk BOV to not operate?
The mechanic I use had to change my BOV because he indicated that the storage facility that was washing my skis did a crappy job which led to the BOV rusting which caused the BOV not to whistle. Does anyone know how corrosion can cause this? Also, has anyone ever had problems with their SC wheel (B1) corroding because that was changed also.
    Thank you in advance

Not a direct answer, but an additional query. Aren't these parts aluminum?

wd40 will insulate anything electric, which is bad. Use Fluid Film, stuff works like a charm and wont hurt any electronics.

WD40 IS THE DEVIL! DON'T USE IT ON ANYTHING ON YOUR SKI, unless you want a pay a couple grand to replace your entire wiring harness.

I don't have much of a personal opinion on WD-40 myself, but don't forget heat, salt, current also
