open loop cooling best way ????

what are you guys finding is the best way to run open loop for cc in tropical weather conditions ???? I have changed it a few times but even in hotter water/air temps the oil is still cold (gio) thinking oil cooler feed off bottom of j pipe ( were running headers) is the best way to go as aposed to an adjustable separate feed ??? all comments welcome.

    cheers jeff

For the engine itself it would be better to reverse the water flow going into head first and leaving through thermo block-off plate. This will keep your head cooler and cylinders warmer protecting valves and cylinders better. In order to run this setup you will also need to relocate the engine coolant temp sensor ( requires wires to be extended ) to the thermo block-off plate.

This also how all the open loop two strokes are set-up OEM.

I have run it both ways. Duke also runs his open loop reversed and says that he is less likely to hang a valve with high boost boats. To me it just makes more sence as with open loop the coolant inlet temp is very low no matter what your outlet temp is so your cylinders are always going to be cold. A cold head is better than cold cylinders IMO.

You know.... After thinking about this for a while. I am not sure why so hundreds of threads were created discussing open loop, but this thread would be a good consolodation thread of those that have been running open loop. I am still considering it, but want a solid solution and water routing that doesnt require constant tuning.

Please post up if you are running open loop, the water routing you are using, if you have to monitor temps, etc.

if you guys are looking for a maintenance free open loop, forget it. your best bet would be to run a heat exchanger. you will get the benefit of no heat fade, without the tuning and possible corrosion associated with open loop in these motors.

And the pressure in the cooling system is lower. How many leaking head gaskets have we read about ?
