    Looking for MSX140 EMM (computer)

I need to buy an EMM for a MSX-140 (2003 or 2004). Anybody have one for sale that is a good functioning unit? It's part number 4010973.
    My email is [email protected].

    Thanks
    Paul

    Welcome back

How did you decide it was the EMM that was bad?
Last we heard from you was NEED HELP with 2003 MSX140

Are you aware that the EMM is matched to the fuel injectors?

If you swap EMM, the injector map data must be copied from the old EMM to the replacement. This can be done by a Polaris dealer, who has the software.

Another option is to purchase the matching injectors with the EMM, and install the EMM+injectors as a set.

    The EMM can often be repaired;
    DFI Technologies Inc.
Component level repair of Ficht Fuel Injection (FFI) EMM used in Polaris Direct Injection (DI) PWC engines.
Also Kawasaki STX1100i Ficht and Tigershark Ficht, and OMC Ficht outboards
$540 flat rate per EMM - If not repairable, return shipping charges only?

Bench testing and engine start/idle/out-of-water rev testing only. No in-water engine load testing.

    No Firmware updating.

    Hi K447

Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I'm still working on the same issue with my MSX140, unfortunately. Haven't been able to use the ski since I bought it months ago (10 mph with 5 second spikes to 40 mph isn't very fun.) Wish I had taken that test ride...

I brought it into a repair shop about two months ago (actually my second shop, first one was horrible) after I had tried to work on it myself. There not a Polaris dealer, (I don't have one near me anyway), but they seem very competent and have diagnostic equipment/software. They specialize in software/electronic issues supposedly. They diagnosed as the computer, found a bad output from it. Diagnosis made sense to me as I had tried just about everything else, (thanks to your very good advice by the way). They recommended sending into DFI for repair, which gave me some confidence that the shop was legit (didn't just automatically hit me for a new EMM).

They sent it in for repair to DFI. They sent it back for free, they were apparently unsure if the repair would work. Shop put it back in - no change. (I'm surprised DFI was so wishy-washy about it working possibly or not, seems a little strange to me they didn't know.) Shop told me this time I need a new EMM, cost is $1400, I found one at Babbitts for $1000, best price so far for a new one I can find, haven't found a used one yet.

I had read somewhere the injectors needed to be mapped to the EMM, I forgot to ask the shop if they could do that. I'll call them to make sure they can. I'm assuming it would be easiest/cheapest to remap rather than replace injectors? I hear the injectors are pretty rock solid realiable.

So that's where I'm at now, looking for an EMM... I was thinking of calling DFI directly about this, maybe they could help, would be good to get unfiltered info on that EMM in my machine about why they couldn't repair. Open to suggestions...

    Thanks, Paul

    Where are you located?

Perhaps you could update your Profile

4010973 is the MSX 140 EMM part number
Babbits does seem to have the lowest price, for a new EMM.

It would be interesting to see what DFI thought was wrong with your EMM, and why they feel the repair may not be possible.

If your dealer doesn't have the ability to transfer the injector info between old and new EMMs, let us know - I am sure we can find somebody nearby that can do it for you.

    parts on ebay

Thanks, I'll check out ebay. Looks like you have to be careful to search in the parts area and not just in Powersport/polaris. I contacted a few people there that have MSX 140 stuff.

Try PolarisPitStop as well. They have low OE prices as well.

Al (craft) had a complete system at one stage ,did he sell it do you know?I would also look at using any 3cyl computer to see if the unit is the issue .you can then remapp if required .
