1998 GP1200 Hull Repair
I am a polaris guy, but I have a friend with a pair of 98 GP 1200s with issues that I am trying to help out with.
one of them has a fairly decent crack through the bottom of the hull more or less directly under the steering area, which I assume is from hull stress/flexing.
he has tried doing a patch using "kitty hair" going 3 inches to either side of the crack, but it repeatedly fails.
we had a conversation this morning about possibly using a new hull, but he brought up something about this being a 2-piece hull and not having the proper seal to put it back together.
first of all, is it true that to remove the engine means splitting the hull? if so, how would one go about splitting it, then putting it back together? I am no expert, but I feel comfortable enough to help him out if I can get enough info about how to go about it.
secondly, is there a tried and true way to repair a hull that maybe he is not considering? this would be better than going through the above.

If hes using fiberglass it wont work he needs to use marine epoxy.
All you need to do to remove the engine is disconect the wiring exhaust mounts etc and lift it out.

I will have to find out why he thinks he needs to split the hull then...he did say something about it only being the 1998 model you had to do that to.
as for marine epoxy, can you be a little more specific? does that include using soem kind of patch material, or do you mean to literally glue the edges together using it? I have _no_ knowledge on hull repair (though I am doing extensive googling on the subject currently).
thanks for the reply though.

Marine epoxy is used the same way fiberglass is.
You can use it with or without fiberglass mating or strands.
Marine tex is one brand West systems is another.
Regular fiberglass does not work because the hull isn't fiberglass its smc.
And you dont have to split the hull on a 98 to get the motor out thats a joke
Do your reseasch on SMC repair theres also information on patching the hull in the service manual.

ahhh, ok that makes sense on why his repairs were not working.
thanks again for the reply, that was very helpful!
