How to fill gap in console on Sportster 150?

I've got a big gap where my console joins. It was originally filled with some glued in molding. After a rough day on Lake Maurepas, which made my hull flex a good bit, the molding had broken loose. The old molding has gotten pretty hard and inflexible. I've tried a couple of things to replace it, but it hasn't worked very well so far. Here is a picture of the gap and the old molding.

Has anyone else had the same problem and fixed it?

    Thanks,
    Jim

The screws holding it on have pulled out. if you look inside youll see that the srews have pulled out.

One of the screws was loose. I tightened it, but it didn't close the gap any. I think the working of the hull with that screw loose probably caused the molding to come off.

Do you know where I could find some similar molding? The original molding to too hard and brittle to reuse.

    Thanks,
    Jim

The shock is pretty weak. It does slam if you let it, but I try not to let it.

    How did you fix it?
    Thanks,
    Jim

I made a clasp to hold it down, I can post pictures if you're curious.

I put a stainless L bracket on mine, on the inside. I had the same issue and also gluded it and filled the gap with 3m brand 5200 its rock solid and the gap is tight now, No more issues.
