All PET owners: Need some serious help

I purchased a PET 2500 and it WONT give me accurate readings.

'Before you ask it is set of P23:46, Ive tried wrapping the wire 5 times around 1 wire, 10 times around 1 wire, 1 time around all three wires, 2 times around all three wires, 3 times around all three wires, I've tried the alligator clip, ive even tried wrapping the wire 5 times and then the alligator clip, ive tired running the wire UP the bottom hole in the tach and ive tried running the wire UP through the top hole of the tach and it wont stop giving me outrageous readings (30000+)

Yesterday I THOUGHT I had it figured out because I got a 7440 max reading on the trailer.

    Try replacing the wire too.

One mine, I had to strip the very end of the wire on each end.

Wrap it around the plug wires at the ignition box and tighten it down with a tie wrap. After doing that mine works great.

if using your own wire strip back the end as ron says...the insulation on the core will stop the signal getting to the tach where it tucks up and over the pet

Make sure you are wrapping the wire near the e-box and not on the protective sleeve.

Am I supposed to be using solid core wire? Because I've tried that too, just not to the extent of stranded wire.

On the stripping the wire note; does it need to be stripped where it comes in contact with the tach? Or after it passes up and through?

You can use solid and it does not need to be striped. The striped one in the pic is for something else. Look at the black wire below the yellow one.
