2004 stx 12f....any known problems?
I am looking into buying a 2004 kawasaki stx 12f. I'm getting it for 4,000 I am going to look at the ski this weekend to do a compression test.
Anyone know of any problems these engines have had?
Do these ski's have an alternator? I know its a 4 cyl 4 stroke engine with reverse. I think its 125hp.
Any advice would be great.

Look at new left over stx-15f. Can get for close to the same price. The ski you mentioned is a good ski......just under powered.

Before I got my 260 I owned a 2007 stx12f and never had a single problem with it. Granted its a bit newer then the one you are looking at but still it was a very reliable ski.

I love my stx 12f, its a great ski and with a few mods i can outrun most 15f skis, at least in my neighborhood... not bad on fuel, easy to upkeep and you can tow skiers...

Like our 2005 12f, but I will be adding another ski soon.....a 15f for the little bit extra, at reasonable cost. It has gps'ed 54 at 1150' elevation, 75F and with 3/4 tank and a 135# rider.
Personally, I wonder how you would reasonably get one of these to 63 on the gps??

Its alot of little tweaks, Rideplate and stock mod grate plus more timing intake exhaust at sea level in the cold on the buzzer, along with some hull mods and sponsons... cleaned the pump tunnel and did the wet pump mod and sythinetic oil and some airflow mods to the hull. I will be swapping a 15f intake and throttle body over in a few weeks...
Its possible just not easy...

I dont know if i should share lol, the 12f has longer runners and a smaller throttle body, the 15f is shorter and has a bigger throttle body...

Well, did you score?? I have a 12f and its my favorite ski, next to my pile-a-poop-Polaris which is the funnest ride on the lake.
The 12f gets good fuel economy. It's a smooth running machine that turns and handles well. Does decent off-shore in the big blue briny too! From what I hear, the 03-05's are the most reliable years. I have an 07 and it had issues with 18.5 hours on it. They were fixed by my dealer and Kawasaki even though I was out if the 1 year warranty period by 3 months. That made me happy. Ran great ever since.
I repeat... Did you score?? Oh, and welcome to the Hulk!

I've seen used 06 for 4000 here in AZ. Like mentioned above get the 15f. Your talking about at least a 6 mph difference.
