Wrong place but with the right group

Well so me and a good friend of mine are looking at getting into go kart racing to have another sport. So we get signed up last week to ride these "TAG" karts today which stands for "touch and go" meaning they have onboard starting and are pretty basic. You can run them for about 20-25 hours between rebuilds and are a 125cc two stroke. So we get out these this morning and it was like 40's so it took a bit to get the tires up to temp. I only looped it once when I was driving so I felt decent ..and it happend to be when I was coming through a turn and got the tire in a small water puddle and around she came. So we both get about 35 minutes of seat time roughly and I was impressed. It has no bottom end power but once you get it spinning around 10,000 up to 17,000 it was crazy.!!! I got up to 76mph down the straights but let off early because A) never drove one and was getting the feel for it B) it was not my stuff so I didn't want to crash the 7k kart....C) was trying to get up to speed with it and learn as it was very touchy going through turns at 60+mph and turning right at 3gs. It was awesome...I was stoked for hours thinking about getting into this and ripping around the track. The Kart can run up to 115mph when geared for the long tracks but where we are riding it was a serious road course style. It's a "BOX" stock class we are thinking to help get started and then may get into spec class as we get better. The guys were like you guys did good...but were pretty slow....I was thinking dam...I know I was puckering up going down these straights looking at a fence knowing I was coming down to make 90 left turn. The guy get's out and runs a few 84-86 mph runs and was just flying. I may go down to one ski if we get karts...anyone else run these ever...even for fun? 28hp stock turning up to 17,000 rpm, water cooled...amazing...it was soooo amazing!

Got two Margay chassis 5hp b&s engine karts. About 11-12hp on alcohol. Bought them about a year ago and haven't the time yet to work on them. Should be a blast but not as good as the one's you rented. Busy working on my small fleet of skis!

Yeah the shifters are about 10k to get started where these "TAG" karts are about 7k and it's also 1/2 the maintainence vs the shifter. The shifter goes through about 3k a season in engine work...ack

    Karts are a blast,,

I have a PTK chassis with a CR125, Brembo brake package, the works.
They have a stock class, meaning you do not have to spend $5,000 on a motor to be competitive,

I enjoy Road Racing more than Sprint, Road courses are generally 2 to 4 mile while sprints are .5 to .8 mile tracks

Lots of bump and go in sprint,, little more relaxed in road Courses with speeds well over 100 you really do not want to bump and bang.

    for a while I had 1 -125cc shifter and 2- 80cc shifters and 1- Rotax ( TAG )

I am guessing you were running on the leopards, The rotax turns a little less RPM is a "sealed" motor but has a power valve, they recomend 50 hour service intervals, Most guys will get 2 seasons before doing anything.

My 125 uses 1 piston with rings a weekend and 2 sets of tires for a 3 day event

Costly???????????? YES but what isn't,, Buy some Ping golf clubs.

    Hvae fun
