    95 XP800

    I remember reading somewhere the crankshaft and maybe balance shaft is different than the 96+. Is this true and if so can a 96+ crank be used in a 95 block if you swap the balance shaft also?

    Also, does it matter if its an XP engine or are all the 787/800s the same after 96?

    the differance is
    95 787 and 96 787 cranks
    95 had different alloy of steel and the pto was threaded differently
    no difference in counterballance shaft
    you can install 96 crank in 95 case , just need 96 pto flywheel

    Not true. The counterbalancer is different. The gear has a different# of teeth. So does the crank.

    The `95 XP800 crank and CB shaft have fewer and bigger gear teeth than the `96 and up. I just saw one go on Ebay a few weeks ago for $150. The sell claimed it would fit a `96 787 but I checked the part numbers and found out differently. I got to looking at it closer and you can tell the gear teeth are bigger. I wouldn't try to put a CB shaft and crank out of a `96 into a `95 XP800. Don't take my word for it... I've never set the two cranks side by side to compare.

    thanks mark i wasnt aware of the counter bal shaft differance but since the 95 was such low production there cant be many of these running around now

    According to SBT... tech support the 95 800 will take a 96+ crank with a 96+ counter balance and PTO.

    That is exactly what I am running in my 95XP800 cases.
    there were/are a number of suttle differences between the 95XP800 and later models. Most of the changes were improvements over the original design(95XP800).
