the float is mullered the little magnet holder is broken, it floats with out the magnet but once the magnet is put back in it sinks

I think www.watcon.com sells new floats.

Just remember to test the float in gas, not water. Gas has a different specific gravity when compared to water, so a bad float will still typically float in water, and sink in gas.

I've just emailed them, the uk suppiler say there no longer availble

it floats without the magnet on the block but once the magnet is put back it sinks, so I'm guessing it's a bad float

    any views thanks

    They are still advalible

One dealer told me they were not advalible , Tricounty Polaris ordered me one.

May be if you get the part number your local guy could get you one.
If you put the float back in the tube and flip it over... your gage should read full.
Your magnet should not slide out of your float unless the little retaining ears are broke.
You can "fool" the gage by installing a resistor , But I would probably make a "fool" out of myself by running out of fuel.
I was ready to make some floats from the "closed cell" material. I have a big hunk of that stuff at work. I wasnt sure how I was going to hold the magnet in. Its alot simpler to order a new one from a decent dealer.
Let us know what you find!
And put on a life jacket

    WHAT????

Are you sure that's for the replacement float, and not a sending unit?

The float weighs a whopping 8 oz., I know shipping is high, but DAMN.......

Is there anything else you may need?

Maybe we can make up a package of parts for you and do 1 box to send over?
