    new computer

More computer issues, Im almost positive my mobo is shot. I was reading that if your south bridge goes it can affect booting. Checked my PS and its good, so I decided to stop fighting my dying system and upgrade.

Im torn on what CPU I want to get I was looking at getting either a AMD 720 X3/955 X4 or Intel E8400/E8500 (both are Core 2 duo). Both have their pos and neg. Anyone have their opinion on which they prefer?

Had Macs in college I hated them. Used them in Video editing and graphic design, my older PC i had was faster than them, tho i did get to use a G5 once and that was nice but they are very costly.

Had a intel in my dell (old P4) dam that thing ran hot, I have a AMD FX-60 in my broken computer and it has worked well (until the mobo failed). Both seem to be comparable in specs.

We use both but I like Apples because they don't get eat up with viruses.
You can actually get a good deal on lots of pre-owned Apples including the G-5 on E-bay; there are several stores on there that sell them pretty cheap; just be sure and buy the Square Trade Warranty and you really can't lose.

Last track I had, the AMD's were a little faster than the Intel's. My expierence is they are both good quality as long as you stay with their better models.

They are like Chevy's and Ford's; everybody has an opinion.

    MAC hands down.

Took advantage of the small discount they had on Black Friday. Couldn't be happier.

IMAC's are what all computers should be.

As for cost, if you compare apples to apples, PC's are only slightly cheaper.

Go with the Wolfdale(E8X00). They run much cooler than the old Pentiums & overclock well, even with air cooling. The AMD might be a little cheaper, but their technology is second rate compared to Intel IMO. Since you're going to replace the board anyway, maybe consider going to the newer microarchitecture I7's. It will be a bit more expensive because you have to use DDR3 RAM, but it's gotten much cheaper over the last year.
