    Used rods ?

Why don't I ever see used rods for sale? It is not too often you hear of an engine breaking all three rods, or stuff like that, yet it seems everyone replaces all three rods when they rebuild. Where are all the good used rods going?

Its because of a couple reasons...99.99% of people can't rebuild their own crankshaft, so nobody is able to remove the "good" rods. Also, its just not worth putting a used rod on that is in unknown condition.

Couldn't they be checked? Measured? Tested somehow? These guys that rebuild them must have piles of rods that are actually good, but changed anyways. (Or cleaned up and resold as new.....with new bearings....)

I asked a while ago. I guess I am not a friend yet....

I understand his point though. Can't be doing work for everyone. What if something goes wrong and he gets blamed for taking out a whole bottom end? I am just having a hard time finding a rod kit for less than $100 by the time it is shipped to me. Multiply that by 3 and its $300 just for RODS!!!

I have used rods I can sell you but it's penny wise and dollar foolish to use them. After spending $250 in labor to rebuild the crank, just spend the extra $180 for 3 new WSM rod kits and be done with it. Even with used rods, you would need new thrust washers and a bearing which will set you back darn near as much as a new rod kit. I also have new factory Polaris 650-780 rods that I can sell you for $25 a piece and I still wouldn't recommend that you buy them. Once again, by the time you buy the bearings, pins and thrust washers to go with the rod, it will cost you way more than buying a new WSM rod kit. If it were me, I would save up my money and not buy any other parts until I had the heart of the engine (crankshaft) rebuilt to as new condition.

Do you have any rod kits 'sitting around' that you would be willing to sell?
