Not a Sea-Doo but help me anwyay?

Okay, so not a Sea-Doo but I only have Seadoos and turned here for help. I have a GY6 engine on a scooter, its a 150cc 4 stroke. Loosing power and going through a lot of oil but doesn't smoke. Haven't done a compression test as I am looking for a 10mm adapter for my tester.

If it is loosing compression what are the odds I can get away with just a piston and rings? I hate to sink a lot of money into this thing. The engine only has 2,000 miles on it.

Do a compression test and compare it to OEM specs...

I will when I find an adapter... but IF it is, being a 4 stroke what are the chances of just being able to do that?

Check all valve and the piston rings, it's probabily the problem.

put oil in the spark hole and if compression goes up its your rings that are bad,
if the compression does not change much its more likely to be a head gasket or your valve. you can actually lap a valve.

Thanks. I know how to do all the tests and such. I hope it is the head/valves as a new head is about $40. I just have to find an adapter for my tester.

If anyone has a 10mm adapter I can borrow or you'll sell me let me know.

cant you just rig up a peice of rubber temporarily and press it down tight? like some inner tube or silicon tubing...
get it lined up close then jam it in there real good, crank it over and look at teh compression #'s
your guage is the max reading resettable needle type????
at least you know if its 150 or 50...
