plastic pistol question. . .
how durable are they? I'm kinda in the market for another gun. want something small and relatively cheap. Pretty much set on a 9mm or 380 because I already have the reloading setup for it. was thinking either a ppk or a sig 226. i just wonder how durable the sig or any plastic gun really is? meaning i probably have close to 20000 rounds through my kimber 1911 and its still incredably accurate. with only the barrel and slide to absorb the heat, how well do the plastic gun's barrels, ect. last?
can't carry in nj, so its not for CC or anything like that. more or less something for plinking.

You will have no issues with a polymer gun. There is really no parts to wear out on the lower receiver so plastic is a non-issue. Look at all of the glocks in service... you never hear of them wearing out.
What is your budget??

yes, but carry guns are not used much at all. usually just monthly qualifying. I'll shoot 400 rounds in an evening. i'm not sure if they are designed to handle that kind of sustained use.
i did read that the sig 226 passed all the tests for the army when they were replacing the 1911. that's a 30000 round test, so that answers that question, I guess.
not looking to spend more than $600, but it doesn't need to be new either.

I really like the Springfield XD's. I prefer them over the Glocks because I don't like the grip angle on the glock. You might check them out for comparison purposes.

definitely going to look at the xd's. never shot one, but I want to and have heard nothing but good things about them. I hate glocks. they're not even on my radar. i do want something double action though, so the xd may be out.

Got one of just about everthing, my current "nightstand" gun is a S&W M&P in 9mm, like it better than any of my other plastic pistols. Sigs are great, have a 228 basically a smaller 226, no problems in 6 years. Dont have one but the new Springfield XDMs look and feel very good.
