    Mikuni SBN Carburetor Restoration

In a few days I hope to have a pair of SBN44 carbs for my WaveRaider. My question is if the paint is flaky, is it O.K. to take them apart and bead blast them? How hard is it to rebuild them? I already have the Mikuni manual, but is it something a novice can do with time and be successful?

If they are not to bad Take some high pressure air blow off the loose paint flakes. Degrease them and paint them back to new. Bead blast with all your open hole covered if you have the extra time. Lee Sounds like some fun!

What kind of "extra" internal parts did you replace in the carbs? I have the standard rebuild kits. Also what kind of effort did your project take? Was it more being meticulate or mechanical? Or both? I have the time to make these very nice, but I don't trust in my skills since I have only been working on skis for a short time. What are your thoughts?

Question 2: (Unrelated) How do you remove the coupler piece from the crankshaft? Also what tools do I need to remove a Skat-Trak impeller?

    For the driveshaft.
Scat hex tool slips over the drive shaft and slides down into the impeller.
You also want a tool to hold the driveshaft it has internal splines and slips over the splines on the driveshaft.

For the coupler the coupler tool works great or if you are carefull you can use a chain wrench.( I use a chain wrench i dont have a coupler tool.)

Adam, send your carbs to Bill. They will come back to you better than they ever were new.
