Starting new engine for first time.

Just installed a new engine in my 05 RXP. Is there anything I need to do in order to properly start it for the first time? Can I start in on the hose to make sure it is running properly? Do I need to use a certain type of break in oil? It is to cold here to water test it on the lake. Let me know the steps, Thanks

Bryan, hold the throttle wide open and crank the engine for about 20 seconds to build up some oil pressure. When you hold the throttle wide open the ski will not start.

    No break in oil required.

Running on the hose is fine.

Thanks Jerry. What is the max amount of time I can let it run on the hose? Would like to let it run for a while to be able to watch for leaks. Can I rev it up at all?

I probably would not let run on the hose more than 5 min since the jet pump is not being cooled.

Running it for 3 minutes or so is no problem. If you want to run it longer you can do that just be sure to spray some water on the carbon seal. Revving it is not a problem just don't hold it pinned on the rev limiter
