New to PWC, have some questions.

Hello everyone. I currently do not own a seadoo however was offered a trade.
I was trying to sell a jeep and was offered a 2004 RXP with 80 hrs on it.
The owner said the supercharger was rebuilt at 75 hrs. Are there any other problems I need to look out for? My jeep was offered for $5k, would this trade be a fair deal for me? The ski comes with a single trailer. Thank you in advance.

Dont sound to bad. I would ask to see a receipt or something to see who rebuilt the supercharger and if they put metal washers in it. Of course look the ski over real well inside and out. I would check under the ski to see if the bottom is all scratched up, also look inside the pump to check for impeller and or wear ring damage. Also forgot if, you dont have much knowledge of PWC, if you have any friends or relatives who do ask them to scope it out.

One thing to look into it why was the charger was rebuilt at 75 hr's. If the charger had a failure witch im guessing it did if it was rebuilt then make sure that the motor has been cleaned out and the oil pumps were replaced. I seen alot of people just jam on a new charger after a failure then end up with a blown motor cause they didnt clean it out theres a TON of info on here about the supercharger. IMO read up as much as you can about them befor jumping the gun. I just always seems odd when i read charger rebuilt then the ski is forsale a couple hrs later. Not tryin to scare you but they are a wear item and it not just on seadoo, But ALL supercharged pwc's are pron to this kind of problem.

Great info guys. I asked him for documentation, he said he would try to pull up the receipts. He also said the guy who performed the rebuild did so in about 45 minutes. Which, from the sound of it, means just the charger was rebuilt and nothing else was looked at. I will try to find someone to come with me and check it out.

just play dumb and ask why the charger was rebuilt, ask i if it broke lol it he says yes RUN the other way....

Charger call for a full rebuild at 100 hr's but if it had ceramic washer still im guessing the charger failed and i would keep looking if thats the case it has 5hr's since the rebuild and if the motor wasnt clean there could be some serious problems. How much will you have in the ski if you were to trade? I bought an 08 rxp during the summer with 0hr's for $ 8400 out the door.....

I'm located in maryland, about 40 minutes from DC and Baltimore. I will definitely ask him a lot more questions about it.

okay, I asked the guy why he had the ski rebuilt at 75 hrs,and what was rebuilt. This is his response :

I rebuilt the supercharger because the guy I know that races them and
knows about them told me it would be a good idea to. One of those things
where you might as well do it now instead of later. From the factory sea
doo put Ceramic washers in the supercharger which over time become fragile
and can break and go into the motor. With the rebuild kit metal washers
replace the ceramic ones there is also some bearings that go in.

It sounds like, from what I've read, that this is the correct thing to do involving the metal washers?

what that guy said is spot on if he is telling the truth.

    welcome to the board.
