Gas tax on pwc`s is deductible!!!!

I was`nt aware of this but in certain states all you have to do is save your receipts when you buy gas for your ski or boat and they will give a deduction for the tax!!! if you go to BoatU.S. Government Affair fuel tax it will list all the states that participate in this program, there are quite a few that do.

I was told the tax is for highway use and improvements and since boats and pwc`s are not used on public highways the tax does`nt apply to them.

But how would you prove that it's destined for your ski? I mean, couldn't I claim a whole lot more and argue I'm using jerry cans?

In Texas, the highway tax is $.20/gallon. There is another $.195/gallon Federal tax on fuel in all states, but that is not refundable. I used to save my receipts, but haven't gotten to ride much in the last couple of years, so it wasn't worth it.

It also applies to other off-highway used of gasoline, i.e. lawnmowers, generators, and aircraft that are certified to use unleaded gasoline.

Get my money back in Texas. As much as I rode in 2009 I got about $60 back. Not sure if I had all of the receipts or not.
If I recall correctly, if you are storing any fuel you have to note it and how you are storing it.

    tax deductible

Hmmm... any other Jersey guys know the tax law in N.J.? lets see , approx. $500 a riding season give or take at a 28% tax bracket ,well thats $140 back more on tax, but that would depend how much is state tax and how much is federal on gas, in january its always time to start looking for those extra deductions, interesting...
