There is a tool you can buy, but I don't see it in the store here. It will come off, just keep working your way around it. They can get stuck pretty good sometimes. The first time I took mine off it sucked. After that I oiled it and torqued it down to only whatever it called for, and I can usually get it off with my hand now.

I made a small slide hammer . Took a 10 in piece of 3/8 rod , put a hook on the end, took a piece of 1 1/2 round stock by 2in long ,drilled a 3/8 hole through the center ,slide it on the rod and welded a washer on the end . put the hooked end in the hole in the cap slide the round stock up and pulls the cap off.

a while back there was talk about the newer models having an improved bolt/filter cap, that when pulled up brings the cap with it. I dont know if it is available now or not.

I devised a trick that's been working great for me. I save a junk allen wrench from all the crap my wife purchases from IKEA. I wrap the small end with electrical tape, insert into oil filter lid hole, grip the top of the wrench with pliers, and pull up. Works fantastic...No, scratching and no hassle.
