solas props dramas
hey guys just a quick question to see if any one else has had any dramas with solas props. one of my mates on an rxtx broke engine mounts and this in turn stripped the splines off the drive shaft. After getting it repaired at the shop and aligned correctly it all went back together with a new drive shaft and a 15-22 solas. After doing some test runs and a little fine tuning of the prop the ski was going great. When out riding at about 2 hours since the new bits the drive shaft stripped the splines in the new prop leaving my mate with nothing but idle to come back to the shore.
After talking to a few other guys he was told to stay away from the solas prop as they have a tendency to do this but I see a lot of you use solas props with no trouble. I run a skat three blade myself and have no dramas with it but my mate is more after the top end so we are stayin gwith the four blades for him.
Appreciate your views on the subject of Solas props. Thanks

You say that you have have had the driveshaft out/ replaced?
The first thing i would do is pull the driveshaft off make sure there is a rubber gromet spacer type thing on the end of the driveshaft that goes in to the motor end.
Whats probably happened is there is no rubber stop and the shaft has gone forward and only half the driveshaft splines are in contact with the prop and has just stripped them.
Its a place to start.
Oh IMO i wouldnt use anything other than SOLAS props. They are great and have no probs with splines etc.

Used the Solas in almost everything and pitched close to 100. Never had this happen.
Like Jerry asked, make sure the rubber snubber is in there. Think you got something else going on.
Pictures would help.

I would put money on it that the rubber snubber thing is not there.
I have seen this before.
Guy did it twice before he found out. Gets expensive fast.

It's not a rubber boot on the drive shaft. It is a rubber bushing on the end of the drive shaft on the pto side. If it is missing it allows the drive shaft to slide forward towards the motor.
