    MSX 140 top end rebuild

    MSX 140 engine rebuild:

Is the 140 a lined engine or will it just take a standard bore?

Stock MSX cylinders are Nikasil plated.

Can you find out what the actual compression numbers are?

    http://charlotte.craigslist.org/boa/1537830924.html

It might just be a TPS sensor problem, fuel pressure regulator, or something else fairly simple to fix.

If the repair shop is not familiar with Ficht fuel injection, they may have given up too easily without properly diagnosing the real problem cause.

How do people manage to wear out a Ficht engine top-end in 100 running hours?
I would expect Nikasil cylinders with oil injection to last much longer than that.

If the EMM (plus injectors), stator and flywheel are good, you could sell just those parts to recoup the entire cost of the ski.

    Or talk the seller down

New Seat cover last week...I just had a jet ski ship 500 miles for $250
Why would someone recover the seat, when the engine is no good?

Sounds like the seller may be in the PWC buying & selling business

He sold it once saying it had good compression and had been rebuilt 2 years ago. I was interested in ski as I am local, but now.... who knows what has been done to it. Yes - sounds like he bought it just to resell it - he seems like a good guy, but sounds like a wheeler dealer....

    Previous sale:

Something very fishy here. It's also listed for $1800 in Charlotte with "good compression". Same pics, same phone number.

    http://charlotte.craigslist.org/boa/1537830924.html

And here it is in Myrtle Beach for $900 with a blown motor, same pics and phone #:

    http://myrtlebeach.craigslist.org/boa/1537827929.html

I flagged both posts the other day when I saw that, but I guess it takes more than one poster flagging to get it deleted....

Did you win it on ebay? I know someone won the ebay auction, then he had it on craiglist again. He just seemed shady - did you get a title with it?

From the pictures it was a clean looking ski.
