How NOT to remove your flame arrestor

Hey guys had my inlet manifold off today and decided that while it was off i might aswell take out my FA. JEEZ was that a bad idea, I wish i had never started, but you cant exactly turn back now can you..

I read a few threads here and thought it was going to be tricky, but you guys are obviously a lot more skilled than I. No kidding it took me around 4 hours, maybe more to get the prick out, and afterwards it looked as though someone detonated C4 in my manifold and just pulled out all the pieces. What a disaster!!
But all the same, its done now, and thank God for that!

    Question

Did you follow the instructions that RIVA has on their website?

Wow...you weren't kidding! If u can.....throw a shop vac in there and make sure you got all the pieces out. You dont want any of that junk getting fed into the motor.... Better yet...follow the instructions Billy posted and see if u can do it the 'recommended' way.

YOU PULLED IT OUT WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY ATTACHES?

THAT WOULD MAKE IT TOUGH AS YOU REMOVED IT ON THE WRONG SIDE...

I can assure you....this is a waste of time! The gains are not worth 10 minutes of your time. I believe the screen disperses air to the rear cylinder and in a boosted motor hurts the overall performance of the motor.

I have done airflow work on all 3 types of manifolds...One with nothing in it, one with the FA in it, and one with the OEM IC in it...There is a different in backpressure, with the IC being the corkiest followed byt he FA unit...I'll have to find the numbers, but I recall with the FA removed you get about 60-70% more airflow and less backpressure compared to the gutted unit...

Plus I have done this mod by removing it manually from my father's TX, and throttle response was more crisp...If you do it right, its worth the time...
