    Security System for Waverunners

Checking if anyone knows of a security system that you can use for yoru waverunner? I know you can lock the engine with the alarm but that really won't prevent someone from stealing your craft. I was thinking about just getting a cheap car alarm system with a shock sensor.

Just a thought as I'm beginning to get worried about my craft or engine going missing. I haven't done a hardcore search online so maybe I will find something.

I was thinking about this and just using the shock sensor

Look for something they use on motorcycles. Been a while but I know they have them.

Something small that you could hide that sends out a tracking signal, like LoJack would work well.

I used to be a auto security and convenience specialist for a local car audio shop and have installed alarms on just about everything: utility trailers, horse trailers, cars & boats but never a PWC. What some has said is correct though look for a motor cycle alarm system. They are water resistant, shock resistant which would last longer than the average alarm. Also have easy hook up being there are not any extra wiring for door locks, ect.
A good one to look for would be a Hornet 121T. This product line is made by DEI the same people that make Viper car alarms. You can also get a sensor to detect someone stealing your cover.

I'd recommend going with a small GPS tracking unit that can be used on the underside of cars, etc. (parents track their kids, LE uses to track suspects, etc.) They are waterproof, very small, and if you have an SHO/FZ, I would highly recommend mounting it somewhere inconspicuous on your engine b/c trust me, if you have an SHO/FZ and it's stolen, the motor is getting ripped out and sold. I've been contemplating buying one, theyre like $150 bucks or so. Not only can you track down the exact location of your ski/motor if someone steals it, this can help in the event you ever get lost offshore and your spouse/family/friend has access to the software/system, they can find your exact location.

That sounds great and was another option I was thinking. My question though is if you do install something like that how would it stand up to heat? Like you said my biggest concern is the motor being stolen.

With the type of unit you are talkign about is it just battery powered? The good thing is that if it did get stolen it would only be a matter of hours before I know that it is missing which, hopefully, would give me a good chance to locate it before they start doing their thing.

Is there any you recommend or should I just do a search?

Thanks all for your input I actually did some searching from the info everyone provided.

I use one of these, not for theft yet but just in case an emergency arrises and im out of cell range deep in the mountains or out in the ocean. The one downside is it cost every year. The batteries last over 30 days when its set to track.

As you said I would purchase one just for emergency use, although I rarely go out in the ocean people still worry at times .

Inregards to the alarm I saw this on EBAY

I would try one of these:

Seriously, I am watching this thread and am interested in what's out there. I like the fact that the engine can't be started without the fob but the ski sits there all the time and someone would just have to let the lift down and swim away with it in the middle of the night.

Maybe I need to trade Her Shih Tzu in on the above dog!
