Oil tank vent leaking.
Bit of a lurker here, but I've recently been trying to work out an issue with my ski and from what I've seen on the net this is the place to ask. It's a 2003 GP1200R.
I haven't used it for about 6 months, but it leaks a fair bit of oil from the oil tank vent (under the right side fairing- see pic). Is this out of the ordinary or does it just happen? I used it regularly for the first year and hadn't seen it before and now it's sitting for extended periods it leaks out like this. The ski hasn't had any mods to the engine.
Any ideas on what causes it and how to stop it?

there is a little plastic bottle under there, maybe it cracked or broke. I have never seen one leak before but there's always a first time LOL

I see this on stored watercraft all the time...and not just Yami. The best advice I can give you is stop topping the oil tank off while it's stored. You could also open the cap, just a touch.
What I think is happening has to do with the weather. As the weather gets warm, the oil expands and goes up past the check valve. It gets trapped there. This happens over and over until it makes it out the top and runs down the side.
Of course, I could be full of crap, and you just have a bad check valve...
