Definitely a worst case scenario. Crushed between two heavy trucks with high frames and bumpers. I wonder what the truck speed at impact was?

Many other car models would have been similarly crushed in the same situation, I suspect. Even cars much larger than a Smart car.

Any vehicle would have been screwed getting pancaked between 2 tri-axle dump trucks that appear fully loaded...

Honestly looks to big to be a smart car. Look at the rim / hub cap.
    .......
Upon checking Snopes, it was a Ford Escape. Hardly a smart car. Love how people are so quick to believe emails.

I agree,no matter what vehicle it was,it would not have looked good after being crushed between 2 trucks. Never cut off a truck ! I see that happen way too offten.

The real point should be the Smart cars crash test. The NTSB crashes similar weight vehicles for their scores. Recently they compared larger vehicles from the same manufactorer against smaller cars, the small cars did not hold up as well as their scores would suggest. The Smart cars door flew off in the video I saw.
All the smaller cars were destroyed by midsize cars!

What bothers me ,is the full size Chevy pick-up got a lesser rating when it got hit in the side by a brick wall the size of a semi truck and they don't test all the cars with the same brick wall.

Snopes says it was a Ford Escape (small SUV), not a car.

"...involved a Ford Escape SUV, not (as is commonly reported) the smaller Smart Car. The impact did not occur dead center as apparently shown in the photograph: it was offset to the right, and thus the driver's side was not nearly as heavily damaged. The driver of the Ford survived the crash and has since been released from the hospital..."

    "...
A reader who told us he was present at the scene of the accident said that (although it is not visible in this photograph) a second vehicle was between the Ford SUV and the dump truck at the time of the collision but was knocked onto the grass underneath the elevated roadway, and that any vehicle "short of another dump truck" would have suffered the same crumpled fate as the Ford did..."
