Intake grate bolt
I have tried to install a new R&D intake grate onto an FZS but one of the bolts wont do up. I think I may have broken the thread as it wont tighten.
Can anyone tell me how I can fix this please? It's the one at the back (portside) so it goes into something near the pump not the hull like at the front.
Thankyou in advance.

You can buy the helicoil in kit form in which you get a drill of the correct diameter and a thread tap to suit the helicoil, Its just a case of drill then tap the hole and use the tool provided to screw the helicoil into place, Its a great fix.

Yes, you can repair threads with a heli coil but be aware there is too much room for error when installing one. There are huge forces pulling down on that intake grate. The proper way to repair this problem is to replace the bracket inside the hull. Item 17 and 19 on this diagram
I hate to see someone do a quick fix repair and end up pulling the grate out and stuffing the ski.
Watch this video to see what I'm talking about

I was watching that when that happened. If that was an actual "stuff", I hope I never experience that. Nobody could hold on to that.

that video is nuts. Now I'm afraid I'm gonna screw something up installing my RD grate...

Was that his helmet that flew about a hundred yards past him? I thought those were supposed to stay on your head?
