One positive thing is, it can be fixed and you can work on it yourself

PR pull it and check the main shaft bearings did they only replace the washers? If main bearings worn remove the intake and check for play in shaft there will be movement

Well I guess this answers my question about riding tommorow. Is it possible the residue is aluminum oxidation from the bare metal inside the housing? The noise could be bearings you would have boost until the impeller stops turning or there is a leak downstream of the SC.

nay to oxidation, this machine looks like it just came off the show room floor for being a 2004 model...besides the interior of the SC is coated/painted. very little run time on this SC, and I don`t ride in salt much, usually the Mullica. I`m content with that 15 miles plus the wading and bass rivers to scoot around in...PR...

If its not oil and not oxidation then the only other alternative is worn metal. If its under warrenty have Derrick check it out. Just don't put it away until its test driven well.

I just changed the oil, and level is good, about a little over 1/2 when hot...PR...
