All China intercoolers are not equal...

I cut a lot of these intercoolers up, and I made a discovery today. The cores are not all the same. The complete intercoolers all looked the same, but internally they are very different.

If you look close, you can see that the middle core is different. 2 of the cores pictured have 7 water passages and 8 air passages, and one of them has 9 water passages and 10 air passages. I have no doubt that the 9/10 core would out perform the 7/8 core in cooling efficiency, and the air passages are so huge I doubt either have any measurable pressure drop at reasonable boost levels.

Check your cores, you can see it by looking in the inlet or outlet.

I also pictured the water inlet on one before I cut it up. Look at how close the internal fitting is to the core.. this is bad.. Most of the ones I cut up are not this way, but some are...

Moral of this story, is they are not all the same, feel free to do with this information whatever you please.

    Louis

BTW if you look close you can see that they are all different, even the 2 that have the same amount of passages. Look at how poorly welded the one on the right is that it impeded the end rows badly..

The one in the middle is the winner for my money..

All of the cores shown are random e-bay IC's I have about 3 or 4 more cores in a box that I will look at to see if there are any further differences..

Thanks, I switch to the EBAY cooler form my X I/C, because some other guys I ride with started having problems. So, I changed before I had one. Seat of the pants, I think I lost some power switching I/C.

Hi, rest assured that all of the intercoolers I supply are produced in 1 location by 1 establishment. There are quality control measures in place and there have been an extremely small incidence of issues with the intercoolers I supply. For these reasons, please take Louis' information as unrelated to the product I sell.

    Thank you.
