    Tight/Heavy steering

I have an ULTRA 250 '08 and starting to find that the steering is very heavy.

When I ride on the Yamahas and the SD's , I noticed that the ULTRA's steering is very heavy.

I opened up the steering column to grease the points as show in the service manual but still find the steering heavy.

Can anyone help with this issue ?

Sounds as though your steering cable is pooping out on you. Does that when it rusting inside. Try if you can to remove cable and lube it or sport for a new one at $75.00

Common issue in high humidity areas or saltwater riding.

if the ultra is anything like the steering on the 12 and 15f then its just the way it was designed, on the 12f and 15f the steering gets progressively stiffer the faster you go, its a kawasaki thing, I personally like it but some dont.

Thanks guys.. I will look into the cable.

I did try greasing the points but it worked for only a few hours. Luks like I may have to opt to change the cable and see what happens now.

If I do.. I will keep you guys posted as to whether it is the cable problem or it is a Kawa thing.

Its great on the straights with the heavyness but a a real pain in the cc turns. Saps you out!

If you ever order a new one, tell your dealer to order a new P/N 594063785 for you instead of the old P/N 594063780 which you have on your ski unless you want to make a new hobby of replacing steering cable every 2 years on Ultra. Trust me, it ain't fun doing it. If dealer says that new P/N is for 2010 model year only, tell him it's OK because I've done 5+ skis (2007- and it will fit just fine. The hull has never changed.

    steering

Opened up to check steering and found that

    1. the cables were outside the steering skirt less play
    2. the cables were not pulled up high enough

Now that it is rectified.. it is a lot better but...

I found out that when riding, if you want steering to be light.. you have to ease off the gas/thrust. Once you accelerate, the thrust makes the steering very heavy. This does not happen on the Yammys and the Doos.

I may be wrong but I will try it again.Anyone else noticed this ?
