    they are seriously hinting at a new cam in those descriptions. looks like a good year for this motor

    As far as I know it's checking for roundness so you can make sure the valve will seat properly.

    Actually kinda curious as to why they offer this...

    valve ste tool

    It checks if the valve stem is true and round. If not the valves
    will not travel in the valve guide smoothly.Its more a workshop tool
    for rebuilding engines.

    I would be seriously surprised if yamaha built this thing with bad valves. they have been making high rpm 4 strokes for a long long time. the motor that this replaced spun 10,000+ rpm in the watercraft version. the sport bike version was even highter.

    Quite simply, its a roundness/straightness tester. Small valves can be easily tweaked/bent from heat,especially on charged motors, or slightly bent even when new isnt unheard of, and to the naked eye its hard to see.
    This makes sure the head of the valve is concentric (round), and paralell with the stem of the valve for a perfect seal on the seat.
